What is important in Germany right now?
Close to the big election in the biggest country in the EU this newsletter is about to start
A few month ago I came up with the idea to write about about Germany for a non-german audience. I though it would be interesting to send a newsletter every now and then with the most discussed topics in my country - from a digital perspective. I called this newsletter-idea “digital viral germany” so it can be shortend to dvg (what I think is funny because dvg are also my initials).
I planned to write about Germany what I would like to read about other european countrys: Short summarys on specific cultural and politcal trends that stand for this country. What is important in german politics? Whose names should I know? What kind of jokes do Germans laugh about (if they do at all)?
But until now I didn’t find a good occasion to start the DVG-project for non-german readers.
With four weeks to go till the big election in the biggest country in the EU I think it will be a good start to write about the Post-Merkel-Germany: Who will follow Angela Merkel after 16 years as German Chancellor? What kind of new government will start after the german election on 26th of September?
I will start the Digital-Viral-Germany with a first episode a few days before the election. It will be called “Too close to call” and will describe the situation close to the election day. Everything points to a neck-and-neck race between Merkels CDU, the Greens and the Social Democrats who all three are seen around 20 percent in election forecasts. What leads to two important points: First none of them with lead a government alone and second there will be several options for new coalitions in the next german bundestag.
You can subscribe to DVG on substack. And if you are interested in telling the story of your country to the dvg-audience you can write me an email. I think it will be a great idea to widen the view and expand the DVG-Newsletter with short insights from others countrys.
